Stayed in The Rose for a week for business. Having read the other reviews, and looked at the website, I was sceptical but I was very pleasantly surprised. 

If one want a "home" feel, rather than an ordinary hotel room, in centre of Leiden, I'd say this is perfect. The room, number six, was very charming and felt newly renovated. It felt like interior items have been hand picked for the room which I like. The only thing I missed was a full length mirror. The bed was super comfy and the shower was good. I'd definitely come back. 

However, I do agree with the other reviewers that it's not an hotel for people with difficulty getting up and down from steep stairs nor for very tall people. 

Very charming hotel

This is not a hotel but a house with several rooms for hire.

First you check in at another hotel close by. You get good information about this by mail a day in advance. The staff was very friendly and let me leave my baggage there because of my early arrival.

At 3 pm I got my key and at first the hotel was slightly hard to find but it's the first house on the corner of the square. It has a sign saying LOT Hotel. A guy at the restaurant with the same door showed me which key to use for the front door when it was closed.

The stairs was pretty steep and I wouldn't be happy if I had heavy luggage, but this time I was lucky.

The room (205) has its charm and especially compared to most business hotels I usually visit. The room was clean but the toilet lacked toilet paper. Lucky me I managed to find some staff before they left. The bathroom is very cramped but functional. No shower curtain. 

No AC - windows need to be open. If you're over 190 cm there's a big risk you'll hit your head.

Overall a fairly nice room at a decent price. I understand many people have different views on what's acceptable, but I like the charm.

Located at the very center of the city. Bars and festival might be a problem to light sleepers but the room itself gave me peace. 

Small but cozy 

You have to check in via the café next door and they only accept cash. No owner seemed to be there at all. The stairs to the top floor were quite steep and hard to negotiate with luggage. I was in room 4 at the front which has a nice view, the bedroom itself seemed clean, but the shower didn't seem so clean and smelt. Wifi didn't seem to work, no heating and a front window was missing. The keys have to be left in a box on the way out and you are dependent on other guests locking the front door during your stay. I normally try and be positive with reviews but this wasn't a great place to stay for a single traveller as it didn't feel very secure. Overall I was disappointed and would not stay there again.

Not really a hotel

By far one of the worst places I've ever been.

No reception - nobody was there when I arrived. I've had to wait outside for someone to come and open the place. My reservation was made through booking dot com but the girl at the frontdesk (the same I have to wait outside...) said I had no reservation... at 11PM. Fortunately they had a room available that, by the way, was terrible and dirty.

Fortunately it was only one night - never again in my life I will set my foot in this s**thole.

Beyond terrible! Not even a real hotel.

If you're in your 20's and your intention is to stay only for a night I don't see a big problem.. If you're not in this category just go to other place! The room was clean and the person who welcomed us was nice but there's no reception at all.. He received us in an old bar! We had to pay with cash ( I don't like it personally) 
We had the  room 5. Bathroom was very very small but the water pressure was good for those who have long hair. We stayed there on a Sunday so there wasn't much noise outside. There was no one to do the check-out..  
Like I said, it is not a hotel and I've had better experiences in hostels than this one.. 2 stars since it wasn't horrible but wasn't good either 

Not a hotel 

Very basic hotel, room is small but clean. A little expensive given it has no air conditioning and the window only opens slightly. And that in the heat of summer. And outside are noisy bars that open until 2 a.m. and may serve more than drinks... 
Positive is that it is located in the centre. Parking is street side for € 13.20 per day.

What else do you need from the hotel where your things are staying? The staff is responsive and positive. To the left of the hotel door is an Australian pub, to the right are a few restaurants and McDonald's. To Leiden Centraal is a 5- to 7-minute walk.

The center is clean, cheap.

The hotel is located right in the center, the rooms are good even if they are spartan, unfortunately they are not followed enough in the details, which sometimes become decisive. No one at the reception to tell that the heating does not work or that there are no blankets or even that the toilet paper is finished.

Nice location, but there's too much to improve.

The first approach is perfectly catastrophic: it looks like a pass hotel. When the hotel indicates a check-in from 3:00 pm, you have to understand that no one will welcome you before: you will wait outside like a c... The entrance is decrepit at will with a few glimpses of humidity. You are surprised to find that there are no insects in the room, which fortunately is not the case. In fact, only the room is normal, rather even a few: a new deck, white walls, charming old furniture, the level of one to two stars. The bathroom is honest. On the other hand, the service is not worth any stars: there is never enough room at the reception, because the windows are locked, and unfortunately not the case.

If it's a hotel, I'm the pope.

I'm just going to add that I've been a big scammer from the owner of this hotel. I've been living in Leiden for five months. If you're looking for a hotel, don't come here, even if it's the best price.
