Alexander Beketov's Guesthouse

Ust-Barguzin

In September 2022, the organizers of our tour of Baikal hosted our group (12 people) in this beautiful guest house. After crossing the threshold of the house, we were immediately immersed in the atmosphere of warmth and love. We were fed the most delicious dinner. Galina and Love are amazing housekeepers, with golden hands. We were able to enjoy their culinary masterpieces for breakfast, lunch and dinner for 5 days. Each time we felt that we could not do so well. Everything was prepared from fresh produce and with great warmth of mind. Every evening we had two baths, and it was very exciting to meet you. In the morning, either the head of the family, or his son Alexander had the opportunity to accompany us on a professional excursion to his unique home in Baikal, where we can now enjoy a unique excursion in his own car, so that we can enjoy a wide range of beautiful activities and activities, which makes it very difficult for us to get to know and enjoy the unique life of the residents of Baikal.

We spent the night there and this time our room was very nice now wifi is available everywhere but it still works just as bad the meal at the french restaurant is still just as pleasant

Wonderful guesthouse with private wooden rooms in a fabulous garden full of flowers. The breakfast and dinner are prepared by the family and are beyond anyone's expectations.
The owner is something like a local ranger and can be one's guide to the surrounding nature.

Like being in a story

A very unfortunate experience: very unfriendly hosts who sell declining equipment as Siberian conditions, in fact a bad descent, the worst expensive Russian-Buryan accommodation we have seen and unfortunately experienced during our three-week trip to Russia.

A very regrettable experience.

We were travelling by train from the UK to Vietnam and Sasha and Galinia's homestay was our first taste of home life since we set off. They were very welcoming, great food and a comfy bed. The following day we had a fantastic trip to the beautiful Barguzin valley with Sasha -  cloudless skies, rivers just beginning to freeze, wild horses, shamanic ceremonies by the road, a walk in the hills followed by lunch in a small village with mountainous plates of delicious local food. We got back to a traditional banya and still more food. We couldn't imagine a better day. Would highly recommend a stay with Sasha and Galina. We hope to go back when Baikal is frozen.

Magical day in the Barguzin valley

It's a nice, stylized Siberian winter estate. The room where we settled is a room with a bathroom. There are mattresses on the floor. There's a stove in the room. The room is not furnished. Maybe it's an idea to show off the original village dwelling, but it's uncomfortable. The bathroom is a sort of sortir on the street. and it's probably just one.

We stayed here for two days and were thrilled. The hospitality is particularly remarkable. The rooms are very nicely decorated and clean. You can use a shared kitchen or you can also cook.

It's perfect.

We stopped by at the Beketov´s for a couple of days while travelling Siberia. They are such gracious hosts, you will have breakfast and dinner with them in their house. Alexander is a fun guy who works as a ranger in nearby national park and knows pretty much everything about the area, animals and plants - and everyone in town. This helps a lot if you`re planning to do some kind of tours in case he is not available due to work. Galina, his wife, is no less charming, and probably the best chef around. A cute cat lives with them and there´s a russian banya.

Gracious family guesthouse

We are 2 couples that travelled to Finland, Russia, Mongolia, and China.  We all agreed our homestay in Ust Barguzin was the highlight of our 5 week trip around the world.  Our experiences at the homestay, day tours of the surrounding area, and exploring the Ust- Barguzin community were very memorable. Because there is very little information on the internet, this review is more extensive than others we have written.  Here is our summary review:
-We were picked up at our hotel in Ulan Ude (pre arranged/4 hour drive to homestay in Land Cruiser) by the son of Alexander.  He is an attorney and was home for the holidays.  This was very fortunate for us because he was very knowledgeable of the area, very friendly, and spoke excellent English.  He served as our guide for the 4 days we were in Ust-Barguzin.  
-His parents were also very gracious, accommodated our requests, and spoke limited English.  Alexander is the past Director of the National Park on Baikal Lake and his wife is a teacher.
-Our rooms were in a separate building in the backyard.  They were very clean and are made out of pine wood.  They provided a small electric heater for each room, and there is a sink with hot water, toilet, and two twin beds. The bath is in a separate building (more later on this).  We ate all of our meals in the main house and were free to come inside and relax anytime.  The internet worked well in the main house.
-There is an additional guest room inside the main house which will accommodate two people.
-The breakfasts and dinners were all excellent.  They were well prepared and varied. Our wives even learned how to make dumplings.
-One of our homestay experiences was the "Siberian Bath".  It is a combination of sauna,  and cold-very cold water.  Not to be missed. 
-Our full day excursions included drives along Baikal Lake, up the Barguzin Valley, boat rides, hot springs, temples, and short hikes.  The hikes included exploring small villages that are very picturesque and great for picture taking.  The excursions were reasonably priced and included lunch.  3 full days is enough time to explore the area (unless you want to spend more time hiking on longer hikes, relaxing on a beach, or fishing).
-The cost of the homestay, including breakfast and dinner was under $25.00USD per person per day.  A fair price.
-in addition to small local stores, there is a large Cash and Carry store that carries just about everything needed at reasonable prices.
This out of the way location is well worth the effort to explore.  Baikal Lake is beautiful.  If you want a true Siberian experience, give this homestay/area a try.  Thanks to the Beketov family. They were great hosts.

The Highlight of Our Trip

We stayed at Alexanders guesthouse for 3 nights in juli 2016, and we enjoyed every moment of it. The place is clean, the food is amazing and the tours they offer are nice as well. We went on a boat tour around the bay, where we visited hot springs and a small village by the lake. The nearest beach is about 2 km from the house.

It can be a bit tough to get there by bus from Ulan Ude. The woman at the ticket counter did not speak engglish, but after some talking back and forth we found the bus. However, if you get a note with the adress of the guesthouse, written in cyrillic, the busdriver will take you all the way to the door of the guesthouse, once you get to Ust Barguzin.

If you want to experience the atmosphere of a smaller siberian town, this place is great.
