Bed and bedding excellent, rooms very well appointed. Staff are excellent, very helpful and friendly. Beach views are stunning, don’t take a street facing room if you can help it, pay that bit extra. 

Glorious island and the hotel is the best location on it. Sit on the terrace watching wild swimmers and dog walkers..taxi into town (to avoid walking up « cardiac hill » is £5. Taxi to airport the same. 

Only quibble is blandness of some of the food. Chef night off? But Eggs Benedict unseasoned and unadorned, hollandaise sauce not great, eggs rubbery. Not our first stay and won’t be our last. Starting to save the pennies already.

Really good, outstanding location

We received a very warm welcome and were shown up to our room. The room was beautiful, double aspect with fantastic views over the bay. It was so relaxing to sit on the Juliet balcony and watch the sea. The room was large and very comfortable. Breakfast was very nice with a good selection of hot and cold dishes.  We had dinner on our first night, again it was very good.  The best thing  about the hotel were the staff who were all very friendly and welcoming. This was our first visit to Alderney, we loved the island. The history, the beautiful beaches and the warm welcome wherever we went.

Ill start with the positives.. unlike a previous review we found the staff exceptionally friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. The hotel is situated on a beautiful bay with a lovely 5 star view and is a 15 minute walk into the pretty town. It’s ideally situated so you can swim and relax in the day and head into town at night. It is on a street with a supermarket (so good for walkers wanting to buy picnics ) and there are also two restaurants very close by that serve decent food. 
The beach is next to the hotel who helpfully provide beach towels, there is a nice terrace too overlooking the bay. Now for the negatives … The hotel decor is dated i havent stayed in anything like it since the 80s .. the rooms are not quite as polished as they appear on the website, pillows aren’t that comfortable..but it’s all not too bad but just feels very average. What really let the hotel down for me was the food. Lunch was bland , the sandwiches and chips were tasteless, breakfast was the same. and therefore you really are paying for the location. This is rated a 4 star but I’ve given it 3 ( although location is 5) as it really didn’t feel like a four star to me .. tip go to one of the other restaurants on the street or in town to eat but have coffee and an evening drink . here. 
I do think with minimal effort this could be a much better hotel, but there isn’t huge amount of choice on the island and There are better hotels on the island but not with such a good location, so you need to make a choice of what you are looking for.

5 star view but 3 star hotel with dated decor and bland food

Absolutely shocking customer service and the way staff talk to customers what a joke was happy to take my custom somewhere else where we were welcomed with opened arms by all staff I will definitely be thinking again if I would visit braye beach hotel again

Shocking

Lovely stay with superb facilities.  Spotless clean with a beautiful room and sweeping views across the beach and headland.  We hardly needed anything more than the view from the room!  Staff extremely welcoming and nothing too much trouble.  Helped with all aspects of our stay and were in touch much in advance to ensure we had everything we needed to make our stay memorable.  Dinner was very nice and comparable to anything else we had on the island - would definitely recommend booking in for dinner on your stay.  There’s also a quayside terrace which is great for daytime food/coffee/drinks.  We needed an early getaway and had particular dietary requirements.  The staff were so attentive and designed a breakfast bespoke to our needs - we very much appreciated the attention to detail.  The waiting staff helped me find the nicest spots to have a coffee and read my book from.  They were there to make sure we got our morning taxi to the airport well and on time.  Thank you to all the staff there, and especially reception who facilitated our travel needs and requests.

Serene and relaxed

Been here so many times. Tonight was the best steak we’ve had for a long time, served by Rhys.. what a star and a professional.. 
Rhys is an amazing person to make you feel comfortable and feel like you’re at home.. 10 out of 10

Fillet Steak

Excellent location, staff, breakfasts, view , bedrooms -all round excellent accommodation, lovely outside spaces overlooking a beautiful beach. Lovely lounge areas to enjoy a glass of wine , great location right on the coastal footpath which is an inspiring walk.

Excellent hotel in a picturesque coastal location

Warm welcome from Kitty, very professional, friendly and helpful. When on shift she's always had a smile and interested in your plans and ready to offer suggestions (not in an imposing way).
Room overlooking the street. Small but adequate. All very clean and well-furnished/decorated. Loved the heavy drapes with the window seat: perfect for reading and watching! Yes, there is some traffic noise if the window is open but not an issue as only light traffic in the morning. 
Breakfast was lovely. Kippers and smoked salmon available so I was very happy! Fresh fruit good. Really friendly service. Petra is a welcome asset to the team, bubbly and friendly. 
We only dined here once and enjoyed our selection. Very good and some interesting finesses.
Overall, very good. Some members of staff could benefit from being more interactive with clientele.

Lovely location

I first stayed at this hotel in November 2021 and was very impressed, when I stayed in a Platinum Double Room (bay view). Staying in high season means there is virtually no chance of getting a Platinum room (as I found) despite booking in March for a stay in August - the best I could be offered was a Silver (basic double) room. Reception staff actually advised that Platinum (bay view) rooms were booked for most of spring/summer 2023! There are no air conditioned rooms in the hotel so in the summer if you aren’t allocated a bay view room there is the potential for your room to get uncomfortably warm.

Since staying in November the hotel has been bought by Julian Hands’ Hand-Picked Hotel Group and this is quite apparent… The complimentary decanter of Sherry which was provided when the hotel was independently owned has gone, which is a real shame as everyone I spoke to on (and off) Alderney knew the hotel for that nice touch. Breakfast quality and portion sizes have dropped, significantly.

Notably, the quality and calibre of waiting/serving staff has also fallen, with hungover, heavily tattooed and body-pierced students presenting themselves poorly at times.

The hotel’s prime bayside location is its unique and primary selling point but other than this I would rate it as an average 3-star hotel and not a 4-star hotel.

I did enjoy an excellent dinner in The Vaults steakhouse at the hotel but this was only open on Friday and Saturday nights.

A very disappointing stay compared to 9 months earlier. Such a shame. I wish I’d have put an offer in for the hotel, myself!

It’s Gone Downhill Since Hand-Picked Hotels Bought It! 🤦🏻‍♂️

A little disappointed. We were really looking forward to eating here as we have stayed here a few times before.
The whole place was a little shabby and needed a face lift. Little things like cigarette butts in plant pots filled with weeds instead of flowers or herbs.
The staff were really friendly and couldn’t have been more helpful. 
We went for lunch and that was nice but the evening meal was not as expected. At £90 for two people we expected a little more than I would have cooked myself at home at a fraction of the cost. Richard the previous manager obviously run a tighter ship and had higher expectations. We will not be returning as there are much better restaurants in Alderney.
