A unique experience to stay in this castle, especially in the tower suite. The hosts are extremely charming and let you share in the long history of this little place.

A charming little god in Normandy

This castle was recommended to me as being quite interesting to visit. So off I went, driving for about one hour, mostly through narrow country lanes. I arrived at the front gates at 10:45, only to be met by notices saying that the castle was closed – it would open at 14:00 hours. Not being able to stay till opening time, I decided to drive up the drive-way and at least view the castle from the outside and maybe take a picture of it. No sooner had I driven half way up, when a man with the airs of being the owner, started shouting at me as if he were possessed. He shouted things like “ you have no respect, I have put two notices and yet you have disrespected me, what don’t you understand about the castle being closed, get out”. He repeated these phases all the louder at least twice. He is the one with no respect at all, because, if he had let me reply to his accusations, I would have explained that “yes I can see that your castle (the building itself) is closed and visiting it is not possible, but thought that it was ok to drive in and get a photo”. 
I definitely advise any prospective visitor to keep well away!


Do not go there

We had an amazing time at the Chateau de Colombières.  Our hosts were very cordial and helpful, going so far as to make dinner reservations for us at local restaurants.  The suite we stayed in was lovely, and the history!  We requested an additional tour of the chateau and grounds and felt as if we had stepped back in time.  The garden and the grounds are beautiful and worth seeing.  We hope to be lucky enough to return again.

What an experience that night at the castle! This building, this monument, has carried us into our history of France. The Châtelaine and the Châtelain are at your ease on the spot and so eager to have you share the history of this historic place.

You can't miss this place if you're in the area.

Beautiful setting in a green countryside. An atypical castle worth visiting. A beautiful inner courtyard. The monument hides its game well, surrounded by dams. We will happily test the guest rooms. A visit is necessary😉

What a wonderful discovery!

I am a travel agent for the last 35 years and have booked this chateau for very happy clients several times over the last 20 years. I finally had the opportunity to visit and enjoy for myself this wonderful experience.

We spent three nights here in the Tower suite and our traveling buddies stayed in the Watchman Suite.  Both suites were very large. The Tower Suite had a very nice large living room with a single bed in it as well connecting to a king/queen bedroom and bath.  The Watchman Suite above us in the same tower had a separate master bedroom and a couple of singles in their living area.   These two rooms were in one of the towers and yes, circular steps to get to the rooms.  We left much of our luggage in our car and only took in what was necessary for the evenings. 

This was our country base for touring the beaches of Normandy, Bayeux, and Mont St Michel over 3 days.  We enjoyed our breakfasts each morning and Claire, our hostess and owner, offered a bit of history but the treat for my husband and myself was a tour of part of the castle as well as the grounds and garden.  Claire also took us to see the room where most of Charles' Ritchie boys collection is housed. There is more to the Ritchie Boys story but you'll just have to visit to find out. Both tours have a nominal fee per person. 

Chateau de Colombieres also participates in the Journees Europeennes du Patrimoine,  (European Heritage Days), the third weekend of September, where many museums and cultural institutions throughout France are free to enter, as well as other events during the year..  We did not get to visit with Charles but had a very fun afternoon with Etienne, his father, who told us many tales of his childhood during WW II.  

Don't go to bed too early without seeing the lighting of the castle at night - absolutely gorgeous with the castle reflection in the moat.

Amazing chateau with amazing hospitality

We traveled to Paris with our daughter and granddaughter and got to spend 2 days in Normandy. Absolutely fell in love with our wonderful hosts and their beautiful Chateau. Their hospitality, historical knowledge and must see suggestions were over the top! I highly recommend a stay at this beautiful property and don’t leave without a tour of the grounds!

Beautiful Chateau

We stayed with Claire and Charles at this magnificent castle for a couple of nights while we toured the Normandy beaches.  Claire went out of her way to make us feel special, and connected beautifully with our 12 year old son.  The breakfasts were perfect, and served in a pretty dining room.  We stayed in the turret, which was a cool experience and let your imagination wander back to the 1500's.  This was my husband's second time staying at the Chateau.  Claire and Charles are so very gracious and we hope to return.

Steeped in history as well as hospitality

Visit away from the crowded tourist sites.Family castle for almost 300 years.The owner welcomed us warmly, and the visit continued with a pleasant and charming guide, who took his time to tell us about the history of the castle and the families who lived there.

Bucolic visit

What a nice surprise this castle is. There is no parking, only a large tree-lined hallway for parking and the discovery of a very beautiful castle, small but very flowery. We immediately fall under the charm of the place. Another surprise is Madame la Comtesse who welcomes us under a tree and will be our guide. We are under the charm of her precise, exciting comment. Who else but she could speak as well about her property? The edges are perfectly maintained and we visit some rooms of the castle. This commentary concerns only the visit to the castle.
