A place of candles, curiosities, cats and countryside.

You know when you turn into the drive that you have found the right place.  A beautiful old french house with converted outbuildings that immediately invokes a spirit of peace and calm, relaxation and wellbeing.

Set in the middle of the Auvergne and standing alone in the most beautiful countryside and setting, it is a place to relax, to watch the deer, red kites, buzzards and songbirds.

It is so quiet.

The house meanders over many rooms all decorated in a traditional french style with, I think, all rooms ensuite and ranging from sunken baths to mosaic tiled showers. Rooms are sizeable and all have views over the surrounding area.

Breakfast is just a taste of France with pain au chocolate, bread, jam, hot dishes and, of course, croissants which are collected from the bakery first thing every morning. The owner also does ridiculously low priced evening dinners on prior request.  When we were here a five course meal (including at least twelve different cheeses) was 25 euro and this included wine.

The house has loads of safe area for children to roam and play.  There is a swimming pool although I think this is only heated during the spring and summer.  

The town of Vichy is very near.  Steeped in history and a miasma of architecture it is famous for its health spa (people come from all over the world to take of the waters) and it boasts a casino and many restaurants ranging from Michelin starred to the most amazing little cafes.

Anything wrong,  Well, the new owners are still settling in.  There is some work to do in undoing the ravages of the past and it shares the adorable french quality of mystical lighting and water systems.  However, everything works fine, water was hot, its spotlessly clean and the food was plentiful and tasty.

While we were there a french couple who were staying told us that they had planned a trip in the summer to the west coast and had now cancelled it to spend another holiday at Aux Jardins Des Thevenets.  I can understand why and we will be back.

The antidote to modern living

We stayed for four nights in this beautiful and secluded home, exploring the extensive woodlands and enjoying the warm hospitality. We were made to feel very much part of the family and ate breakfast and delicious dinner with our hosts and other guests as they came and went. The food was excellent and the dining room a beautiful candle-lit setting. There is an indoor heated pool and the rooms were comfortable and individually furnished. Well situated for exploring Vichy. They do run a lively Facebook page if you want to get more of a feel for the place. I have no doubt we will be back! 

Secluded home stay in elegant period residence 

The guest table was sumptuous with an out of time side. The new owners, Bernard and his wife, are very warm. Thank you very much for their hospitality.

It's great.

My family and I enjoyed a magical stay in the heartland of the French countryside. The views, especially in winter were truly stunning, a perfect match with the brilliant hosting of Bernard and Jacinta. Furthermore, the rustic and charming interior of the rooms added an extra element to our stay, which made us feel even more at home. The location is perfect, as it close enough to experience the real Vichy, but not too close as to disturb the peace and tranquility enjoyed by all those who stay at Aux Jardins de Thevenets. 

Lastly, the woodland walks and delectable food were a key feature to this wonderful family holiday.

Joyful Jardins!

We can only recommend a visit to the Gardens des Thévenets, in this old mansion with beautifully decorated rooms.

Charm and calm

Deep in the hinterland of Vichy, this fabulously renovated chateau ticks all the boxes.  We had a delightful room, perhaps the honeymoon suite, huge, beautifully draped bed, with standalone bath in a spacious bathroom.  The room, no the whole place, furnished so tastefully, with modernistic, authentic artwork.  Evening meal, al fresco, with a mix of nationalities, some old clients, others, like ourselves, first-timers;  a social and culinary experience. BUT - they are selling up. this year!  Disaster - let's hope the new owners can replicate or improve the experience. 

Atmospheric!

After the traffic jams, we had to recharge. Lynn's home was still as friendly. We enjoyed her heated indoor pool to relax. There was no guest table but the break-in was very good... for a Sunday night. The spacious rooms with originality as a decorated spa but with taste.

Serenity and calmness

From a novel by Maupassant this place out of time is kept by Lynn and Olivier. An ancient building, where centuries read themselves without ostentation in small details. A subtle, delicate, precious house. Paintings, those of Olivier and others... works of books... An atmosphere, an atmosphere from which we no longer want to leave... A nice conversation with Lynn and Olivier. We loved the White Room. What more can I tell you... And if this was your next getaway!!!

Very good address

This beautiful gentleman is nestled in the heart of a forest, a few kilometers from Vichy. When you take the small dirt road that leads to this beautiful home, you leave the world, its mess and its turmoil. Here it is elsewhere. Very warm welcome from Lynn, the owner of the place with her husband Olivier (painter), an absolutely charming hostess who, from the beginning, sets herself up to make us comfortable. The house is superb, very beautiful rooms (for us the red one), restored with respect to the materials, warm and comfortable. There is an amazing indoor pool (which we have not used). Lynn is a talented cook and she has given us a nice lunch, her guesthouse is still very nice, and we recommend that her address is superb!
