We chose this hotel because it was next to the train station. When we went in a backpack, and arrived in the early hours, we were grateful for the short distances. Hotel de passage, without luxuries, with just enough for rest and toiletry. Our room, everything and a double bed, was small, costba moverse. Wc peculiar, the shower plate and the toilet were together. There was no dryer, towels were to be ordered at the reception. We were touched next to the entrance, so we could hear both people arriving and those already installed. The wallpaper with unlocked trams. There was to pay, despite the scarcity of English speakers, if they understood. You can walk to the center of the city, but it's a problem to get there. There are several places to eat in the same hotel, but there is no doubt that the parking lot is on the other side of the street.

Hotel de Batalla is located in the heart of the city.

Simple, unpretentious, cheap, decent if you're happy, but exceptionally positioned right in front of the station, so if you get on the train and you have to leave right away, I don't think there's anything more convenient...

In front of the station

Decent place with good location especially if you're planning to catch an early train like us (2min walk to the train station). Clean room with clean sheets and towels. The wi-fi was working only in the corridor/lobby and the staff spoke only Russian. There is a tram that goes from Magas to the city centre in 10min.

Good location for train travellers

The location of this place is great for backpackers. It's just on the other side of the road from the train station surrounded by some cheap eateries. It's easy to reach the town center from here or even the airport as there is a direct bus leaving from the station.
The place is a bit weird as it has 2 sections. I can't say anything about the rooms in the main building where the reception is but these are definitely the rooms where the wifi is. There is another newly built building just behind the main one but there are some locals hanging out around it and they can be quite unpleasant for female travellers. These newly built rooms are very clean and the beds are still in good condition. The funny thing is that if you're taller than 6"4 you probably won't be able to use some of the men's toilets as they are probably made for little children and an adult male would never be able to sit down there.
In the new section there was absolutely no wifi coverage when we were there but I hope they will fix this.
The reception was not the most helpful, once they took our money they became totally neutral and didn't really recognize our presence.
I did not unlike the hostel as it was cheap and the location was good but it definitely lacks some life and minor things that would make it a good place.

Nice and clean place that lacks that little bit to become very good

The staff is rude, and only a couple of people speak Russian. The prices are too high, they have a luxury that costs 3,000 (!) a night, even though it's the most common hostel with a two-bedroom. The view from the luxury is the wall of a neighboring building. The view from the two- or three-bedroom hostels is some kind of garbage. In the center you can rent for the same money.

Disappointment

Before I moved to Irkutsk, I stayed at this hotel. The prices are quite low, it is located right opposite the train station, very convenient. The atmosphere is good, the furniture is normal, it is always clean and cozy! Also, it is frequented by acquaintances from other cities, who are also satisfied. So I recommend everyone, especially if you travel by train.
