First of all, we liked that the hostel is in a really central place in the city, and very clean. The hostel stuff was really kind and generous.
 BUT on the other hand, it was really really noisy, we heard everything from street and from the corridor. The room had no window.. there was no air and light, it was upsetting.  Our room didn't look like the pictures and the bed was uncomfortable. The whole hostel was depressing, and we stayed as little as we can.

Pension Norma for 4 days

It is located half an hour's walk from the centre. The building in which it is located is really narrow, if you have very large suitcases I would not recommend it because the stairs besides being very narrow have very high steps. The room is very warm, a ventilator placed high in front of the beds did not help. The presence of a single socket in the whole room for more than at the feet of a bed was not a very convenient thing to charge the electronic devices. In return, however, the room was clean and equipped with towels. The structure has a mini-fridge and a microwave oven in common. The bathroom (in common) was very clean, nothing to say about that. As for the friendly staff and available to all.

It's okay for two or three days.

I never slept in Barcelona before this week.
Having planned a trip around Spain, I booked a room at pension norma for 1 night because the day after i will have moved to Valencia.
I booked the room using booking website but I discovered that photogallery was misleading.
The pension is quite over “La rambla” quartier so is very nice because of its location.
Also pictures of accomodation and rooms were nice, but when I reached the pension with my son I discovered a different reality.
The pension is at 2nd and 3rd floor with a little stairs and lot of steps and if you have a bag of 20 kg like me .. it’s netterà then half an hour in a fitness gym.
Room was without air conditioning. The man at the desk was completely deaf to out complaints.
I will nevermore sleep in an pension like this.
Don’t book it.

Booking photogallery is misleading

As an American traveler, I always forget that the "first floor" is not the same as the ground floor! This guest house says it is on the second floor, but it is actually on what Americans would consider the fourth floor. There is a ground floor, mezzanine, and then a first floor before you get to the second floor. So there is quite a climb!

The place was very modest but very clean. There was a lovely cross breeze that blew through the guesthouse. My room was Room 201 which was not desirable. There was no exterior window. It had a window which looked out directly onto the same stairs that I had just climbed. There is also no air conditioning in the room; there is a fan which would have been fine except it was mounted to the wall far from the bed. It was unbearable. That's not the hotel's fault, but it would have been a relief if the fan had been closer. I could open the window to the stairs and get a little cool air that way but it was NOT safe. If you are a woman traveler, this would not have been a secure sleeping situation. The window could open and there was a blind but that blind was accessible from within the room and on the stairs!

I had a shared bathroom and the bathroom/shower was VERY CLEAN.

This is one of those guesthouses where you have to leave the key when you leave. Now, I'm not complaining about this even though I can't imagine how expensive it would be to make copies of the keys anyway. But the rule is to leave the key at the desk when you leave and that is fine. The thing that I hate about these guesthouses is that they don't ask for any form of identification when you get back. I just went to the desk and told some guy I hadn't seen before that I was in Room 201 and he just tossed me the key. Why don't they ever ask for ID! It's probably pretty rare that is ever a problem, but I never feel secure in places like this. So in my room, I hid my cash and some personal stuff in a bag with dirty laundry.

This guesthouse is close to the Metro and the neighborhood felt safe (I'm a 6' 200 lb. white male so my perspective on safety may be biased). I needed an inexpensive place to stay and this place was perfectly adequate. However, I don't think I'll return should I ever find my way back to Barcelona.

Rooms are clean and toilet as well. The location is awesome, Gracia is really nice place to live. There is no elevator and you need to go up 3 floors in narrow stairs. Totally worth it for the price!!

This is a boarding house! Don't confuse it with a hotel! So this boarding house (one star) there are others with two and three stars... but not here! Welcome: pretty nice, but you have to spread your ear or be focused to understand the boss (I think) but it's good! Cleanliness: and rather good enough, in the room, and even good enough for the common bathroom. Bedclothes and blankets too. Comfort: uh... bo... there's actually none! It's like a night in Thailand... except that the basement in Thailand is just another story... A simple double bed, a radiator, a wall ventilator, a lavatory and an electrical outlet!

The Minimum

57 steps up and down to your room, noisy from above through the night and on our level with people coming and going. Strange set up regarding the windows in the rooms. Not all negative the rooms were cleaned daily and the place is in a really good spot, the neighbourhood has lots going on.

Great location if nothing else!

The location is spectacular, a few minutes from the station Fontana, green line, which leads in a few minutes to Plaza Catalunya and Plaza España. However, the guest house is located on a fourth floor without elevator, in an old building with very high steps, so this 4th floor equals maybe a 6th. About 100 degrees to get to the room, naked and uncomfortable but with a bathroom in a very clean room. Receptionist friendly and available. We had a problem with the bed (broken from the first night, no comment) and they kindly allowed us to sleep in one room to the other room leaving our stuff in the other bathroom (since we had the staff) In the complex is promoted for the position, but still pay 192€ for 3 nights to sleep in a broken bed is kindly.

The position

My room had a window that looked directly at the staircase, you can imagine the noise of the people arriving at the pension at dawn; everything was also heard through its thin walls.

The stairs themselves, deserve a separate chapter in the description of this hostel. There is no elevator, something expected and in accordance with the low price. The unexpected thing is that the hostel is on the third floor and the access stairs to it are narrow with irregular steps, not very ergonomic and that do not follow a fixed pattern.
I visited Barcelona to participate in an athletics competition so it was not an extreme problem for me because my physical condition allows me it but visitors who are not in shape should think it over if they want to stay there, especially if they carry with them a lot of luggage.

There was also no air conditioning, only a fan embedded in the wall near the ceiling that pushed the masses of hot air down, so it was not very useful.

It is also noteworthy that it is forbidden to shower after 23:00, if I remember correctly.

In short, a nightmare! Needless to say, I did not sleep well that couple of nights ithat I stayed house Norma.

The room wasn't exactly the same as in the photo. We'd have to dye and refurbish the furnishings a little bit, but overall the rooms are adequate and the bathrooms are clean.
