When we arrived, we walked to the hotel next door to get our keys. There's no real reception desk, so we had to walk around a bit before the owner came to find us. She gave us the keys, walked us outside, and pointed to the house and gave us directions to our room.

The room was in the basement, which was unexpected and not ideal. When we walked in, we saw dead bugs all over the floor and one of the main lights in the room didn't work - not the greatest first impression. We then noticed that there was no hand soap in the soap dispenser. On our way out (we wanted to go for a hike), we went back to the main hotel to tell the owner this, she said she would bring us soap. When we got back after our hike, another soap dispenser and some light bulbs had been left outside our door. Upon walking in, we discovered that the room had not been touched. When we went back to complain, the owner told us that she didn't have a spare key to the room. At this point it was too late, so we dealt with the situation as it was. Back in the room we discovered that the shower door was broken - my boyfriend had to open the door from the outside so I could get out of the shower. The shower head also would not stay up on the pole, it just kept dropping down, tightening the screw did not help. This made showering less than pleasant. There's also no soap provided with which to shower - my boyfriend wasn't surprised, so maybe this is something from Germany that I'm not used to, but normally if I stay in a hotel, I expect soap with which to shower. The beds are ok, but not super comfortable - I woke up with a crick in my neck and the mattress was a bit too soft for my taste.

The next morning we told the owner about the shower door situation and complained again about the dead bugs. She asked us to leave our room key with her. This is not an issue - but this should have been explained at the beginning and there should be a system for leaving your key with reception (there seems to be a system for the main hotel, it would not be difficult to set up a similar system for the house next door). When we got back that evening, The floor had been vacuumed, but the room was not properly cleaned - there were still dead bugs on the windowsill in the bathroom and the garbage had not been emptied. The light bulb had also not been replaced in the main room - so really very minimal effort was made.

The third day there, we forgot about the key situation (again, thus why there should be a system - also, a more attentive hotel owner would have reminded us), so when we got back, we had no new towels and the garbage was getting fuller. I brought some dirty towels to the main building and exchanged them for fresh towels. Just a really frustrating and unpleasant situation.

The only good things I can say about the place - the breakfast is fine. Fresh bread, warm boiled eggs (that are way over boiled), cold cuts and cheese, jam / chocolate spread, cereal with milk. About halfway through your breakfast you get a thermos of coffee (better late than never). And the location is convenient for walking into Sankt Andreasberg (although beware there's not much there). And the owner at the end gave us an 8% discount on our stay due to all our issues (pretty minimal in my opinion, but it's not really about the money, it's about the experience). But honestly, I would stay as far away from this place if at all possible - it was one of my most unpleasant hotel stays.
