We booked a room at Hotel Abina through BringFido, three weeks prior to our reservation dates, exclusively because they were listed as pet-friendly. 

They are not. They are not even human-friendly. 

Their listing on BringFido even claimed that there were pet-sitting services available via the hotel. Their listing on Booking.com even said they offered pet bowls. However, none of this is true.

When we checked in for a three-night stay, the staff had our reservation through BringFido in front of them but said nothing about our dogs at that time. 

Our room was exceedingly small. The pillows had no cases but were instead wrapped in bedspreads. The carpets were stained, the communal shower had bugs, the sink was cracked, the window mantel was loose, and the piles of lint under the bed looked as if no one had cleaned under it in years. 

The hallway to the bathroom (with a broken lock, broken toilet seat, and perpetually out of paper) that was absurdly meant to be shared by ten guest rooms AND the restaurant/bar downstairs was accessed only by a barely-lit corridor with an uneven floor. 

Both those first two nights, we were kept awake by men partying loudly in the room next door and out on the rooftop adjacent to our room. 

But the worst was when we came back to our room and found that the window, which we had left locked, was wide open, exposing our valuables to anyone who wanted to climb the ladder from the alley and step in from the roof. 

Our two laptops, the means of our livelihood and containing my students’ personal information, had been left unsecured by the hotel staff, who had clearly entered our room to open the window but had not bothered to actually clean or service the room. 

To add insult to injury, the next morning, a member of the staff rudely confronted my husband in public and angrily shouted three times in a row that dogs were not allowed in the hotel. 

When I showed the manager our booking through BringFido, she said she had never heard of that company, and insisted that I had booked through Expedia. A moment later, she insisted that when she received the email from BringFido stating we were traveling with dogs and requesting confirmation of a dog-friendly room, she said she had replied (to the people she just said she’d never heard of!) that they did not allow dogs. 

And yet, the hotel had somehow accepted the booking and somehow checked us in without the slightest mention to us of any problem.

 Confronted with the facts, this rude, unprofessional manager had no choice but to confirm that the situation was not our fault, but she never apologized for yelling at my husband in public. 

This dump of a hotel, with its rude, dishonest manager, and staff that has no regard for the safety of customers' valuables, is not only unwelcoming of dogs, it is unfit for humans. 

There are so many better options in Amsterdam, it’s no wonder this dank, decrepit hole seemed to be mostly empty and frequented mainly by noisy drunks. Hotel Abina is a disgrace. 

(I need to add that the adjacent restaurant was fine and its staff friendly and attentive; this review is not intended to reflect poorly on them.)

They Left Our Room Open and Our Valuables Exposed AND The Manager Yelled at My Husband in Public

Hello France, I went to the abina hotel for three nights, the experience was disastrous. Between the luxurious room I had booked but which was only awarded to us on the second evening and the deafening noise until late in the evening, I could not find any pleasure in this hotel, or rather two, the very good quality of the bed and the kindness of the staff who, even overtaken by the clientele, cared for us with great kindness.

Noisy but welcoming

Would rate it lower if I could. The room was terrible. It was small and there was next to one space to store clothes, and while this didn't bother me for my 2 night stay, it would be really inappropriate for any longer stay. Toilet and shower are shared with many other rooms and are poorly kept. Cracked tiles, random empty bottles of shampoo and condition etc just left in a pile on the floor. There is a sink in the room, but our tap was cracked and sprayed water out the side when you turned it on. There is also a lot of noise outside, as late as even 11pm and with our window broken, we couldn't close it properly to help shut out some of the noise.

Food in the bar below is good but VERY expensive for what you get. We also paid for breakfast included and it was nice to help yourself to bread, a toaster, some crackers, deli meat and cheese but... it was just stuff that they bought from the Lidl literally right across the road, about 20 metres away. Not worth how much they were charging for it.

They also double charged us and are refusing to give a refund. We spoke to staff at the time and they all seemed friendly and happy to help but couldn't do anything. It was all "Oh, I'll text the person who is doing the breakfast tomorrow". She didn't. And when we explained it to the person on breakfast her only suggestion was also to text a co-worker. They took our details and said they'd email us about it. They didn't. We had to chase them up with multiple emails which they all ignored, so we emailed the company through whom we booked the stay. They contacted Abina who claimed that they'd already sent the refund through. They hadn't, which we have proven with bank statements. They still haven't. As of writing this it's been 6 weeks since our stay. No refund and extremely poor communication from Abina through and through. 

Absolute worst hotel experience to date. Don't stay here.


Terrible. Avoid.

Great value hotel approximately 8km from Amsterdam centre but easily accessible by bike but no really close trams or busses. Lively cafe /restaurant with excellent food and super efficient, polite and friendly staff- spare ribs are to die for! Friday and Saturday night expect good music till late but not much sleep. Rooms and bathrooms spotless but bring a fan with you as no aircon so rooms get hot during summer. 

Value hotel with excellent atmosphere and food! 

Okay place. Friendly and helpful staff. The room was very small, not clean and had a strange smell (mold??). I was there Monday-Wednesday so did not have the noise problem mentioned by others. Compared to other places in Amsterdam it's a decent price for a room with a private bathroom, but it still feels very expensive given the standard of the room. But I guess you don't have much choice...

Parking is expensive in Amsterdam, so nearby accommodation is a convenient option. 20' from the centre by bus, Hotel Abina is located in a particularly pleasant residential area on the edge of the forest.

Welcome, simple comfort, a satisfactory quality/price ratio for Amsterdam

Loud. This property is basically a nightclub. Music started around 6pm. Became extremely loud at 11pm until about 2am. So loud that my ears are ringing from the amount of bass. Not a place to go for a rest. (Good music though) Communal bathroom and shower wasn’t the best. You do get what you pay for. But was not what was expected.

I had a very good stay at Abina. The people working at the time were very nice and polite. The room was clean and we slept well. The pub downstairs is welcoming and a good place to end the day. I do really recommend this hotel, because it is close to Amsterdam and in a safe neighborhood.

Great Hotel

This is the worst place I have ever visited,  firstly the room was so bad, smelly, small. Do not give these people your credit card details,  they went into my account which were supplied to them by lastminute.com.  they then took 270.00 euro. I did not get my refund which was agreed by the hotel. I will never deal with them or lastminute.com

If you are coming for a weekend, then do no proceed to book this Hotel. The Cafe is more of a pub with EXTREMELY loud music, which makes it impossible to sleep until late hours.
The whole purpose of a hotel is getting rest and sleep. I can not see how they are allowed to keep this establishment as a hotel.

I have been to some really really bad hotels around the world, even in the amazons, but this one tops them.
