Stay the hell away.  We had bed bugs in our room that we found during the first night.  The front desk person swore up and down that we were wrong (even though we'd found dead bugs) and insisted that they would do another sweep of our room while we were out, replace all the beds, and absolutely guarantee to us that for the second night there would be no bugs.

We reluctantly accepted the offer and stayed another night (of our 3 night stay).  After night 2 several of us woke up with bites and found several LIVE bugs.  We told the front desk person who tried to get us to stay for our final night anyways, and eventually refused to even issue us a refund.  We had to book a hotel for our final night stay (which wound up costing us $500 for a last minute booking) and we had to throw out half of our clothing to avoid bringing a bed bug infestation home.

I tried to dispute the charge with my credit card company (because literally we got bed bugs) but Heart of Amsterdam fought the dispute and insisted that even though we had bed bugs, because we still slept in the room we were not entitled to any type of refund.  Let me state that again.  They agreed that we had bed bugs but insisted that because we slept there, we were not due a refund.  WHAT??

Seriously, don't risk it.  Bed bugs can be impossible to get rid of.  This place has a nasty infestation, hides it, and refuses to take responsibility.  STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE.

Personally I think this is the best hotel in Amsterdam city, located in the Red Light District in the center of Amsterdam, I spent 3 days (2 nights) really top only at 20 euros and free lunch, you can't find better.

Best Hostel in Downtown Amsterdam (Price & Location)

If you don't want excellence, it's great as a hostel, always open, available, good rooms, safe houses, maybe just a little more cleaning in the bathroom.

I would call it a kind of expensive hostel in the center of the red-light district. Very old and poorly maintained palace especially inside! I don't know who was the genius who thought to dedicate every room to a famous movie, in any case it got him really bad. Narrow from the stairs. We had a triple (brandy + castle bed ): mattresses that you can't more basic (they felt soft), all black walls (we were in the Matrix-themed one), bathroom.. I don't even know how to call it..wc on one side and shower with a micro dishwasher from the other (in the standard of Amsterdam dishwashers).

The hostel is very well located, but it carries a lot of noise until the early hours of the morning. The mattresses are very comfortable, the bedrooms have their own plug and light. The bathroom is quite clean and new with warm water. The receptionists don't help you much, they try to dispatch you as soon as possible regardless of whether you understand it or not, let's not try to do anything if you're just a little clear with English.

I booked two nights at this hotel from October 20, when I arrived the booked room had been assigned to someone else and the hotel was full. To solve the problem, the receptionist took the liberty of booking another room for me in a hotel in Amsterdam for the sum of 448 euros without asking for my opinion and using MY BANK CARD. Apparently it was Booking.com that transmitted the bank information to the hotel. To this day Booking.com tells me that they can't do anything and that I have to see with the hotel that doesn't want to acknowledge its responsibility. Very bad experience at this hotel, a shouting price of cardnalism, everything is missing at the hotel!

Wonderful Museums/culture, especially the technology presentations of Van Gogh paintings at his museum (don't miss it); & the Riijicis Museum; & great architecture.And fine helpful people in the hotels & restaurants.                  But the streets are packed with under 50 year olds on bikes & they absolutely feel you should not be walking in their streets (or riding in an Uber). Some will aim their bikes right at you , in the crosswalks & on the side, narrow streets. They glare or yell at you for crossing wherever they happen to be going. And City fathers are helping the kamikaze bikers with their long range plan to close all streets in the downtown/tourist areas. Many are already closed, making Uber rides hard (& some bikers try to hit the car doors, to scratch them). Google says Amsterdam has the highest European rates of pedestrians being hit/maimed, or killed--anywhere Europe. You can not relax & find  a stress free world & vacation in Amsterdam. Don't risk the future of your body just for great art & culture. We would have left the first morning if the air tickets & hotel penalties were not so expensive.

A shared room of 6 people, a bathroom that smelled very bad (I doubt they cleaned it often).The room was correct, individual plugs in each bed (that is, if, if it is summer, as there is a ventilator on, someone is left without access to the power supply).Slowness and relative silence (yes no por el de la calle, which is normal, if not in the same hostel no rest was respected at all).

The hostel is right in the red light district, you can watch the prostitutes practically at work. The rooms didn't have air conditioning, so the windows had to be opened and fans were installed. The staff was friendly, spoke only English, no German. The rooms were not the cleanest. Relatively young audience.

Not the cleanest hostel, but okay, central location.

Only stayed here for a night but was very pleased with my stay. Located by the red light district so it was easy to get to different places in the city from the hostel. Quirky but cute layout since i believe it used to be a theater? Rooms weren’t super breezy but they did have fans so that was nice and relieving! Staff was knowledgeable and helpful, keep in mind that breakfast isn’t included
