This hotel is on the cusp of success under the new management (only a month onto the job). Anna and John are welcoming and keen to provide an elevated level of service. The recently renovated rooms are comfortable and clean, courtesy of Kath, our experienced  maid. Some rooms are yet to be updated soon.
My wife and I had dinner and the fish (boneless and skinless) 'n chips were lovely and crisp some of the best we have experienced in any pub/hotel! 
I believe that Sammy Smith will be impressed with this management team which I predict will improve their balance sheet within a year!

The new managers show excellent promise

We had such a lovely meal at the end of February which we really enjoyed so we booked for Mother’s Day Sunday for a roast and we really enjoyed that one as well the food and service is amazing will definitely return 😍and highly recommend to try ❤️.

Bad attitude from both staff behind the bar, and useless customer service.

The first guy ignored us for a while, then had a sarcastic tone while asking what drinks we want.

The draught cola I ordered tasted like water. I've had hundreds of Cokes and cola equivalents in pubs — including Sam Smith pubs — so I know what it's meant to taste like.

When I took it back to the bar another guy was there to 'help'. I told him the problem and he didn't seem to care. I said he could try it for himself, which he did with a straw. Then shrugged and said that's what it's meant to taste like. Nothing he could do about it. I asked if I could switch to something else like a lemonade, but that was rejected.

I left the £4+ cola at the bar and went and got tap water.

I'd never return a Coke/cola that was ok. This tasted so watered down it wasn't worth drinking. In any other pub where this has happened they've immediately replaced it, or offered an alternative. No problem. Great customer service.

It wasn't just the Coke here. It was the general bad vibe from the two staff.

We went to the Roebuck pub nearby afterwards and had the usual great pub experience.

If you're looking for a good pub in Richmond, avoid The Rose of York!

Bad vibes

My wife and myself - together with my brother - had lunch earlier today at the Rose of York - near Petersham Common and somewhere that used to be one of our favourite local Pubs  - for the first time  (not helped by the COVID Pandemic) in many years.

The property had not changed very much but, not surprisingly, it was now under new Management. Not a problem as we were afforded a very warm welcome and - having booked our table in advance (a prerequisite for anyone wanting to enjoy the Sunday Lunch which is served from 1200-1600 hours) were promptly taken to a nice table at the front of the property.

Our drinks and food orders were also promptly taken and I particularly enjoyed my trio (Beef, Chicken & Pork) mains but was a little disappointed to find out that no cauliflower & cheese was available. Despite one member of staff being on his first day, service was also very good throughout our stay.

All in all, a most enjoyable return visit - one that we would  gladly repeat.

Old old old, but fit a family of 5 in one room that made a Stay in London do-able.

Can walk to tube.
Night fire and board games were lovely and a great place to read.
Breakfast was prepared for us specifically each am.

If you don't need super luxury, this is perfect!

Week stay to visit local family

Another fantastic stay at The Rose of York, a real gem near the heart of Richmond, for less than Richmond prices, the location is superb, near the river for walks or the town for shopping, the staff are friendly and accommodating and there is a cosy atmosphere in the bar, usually with an open fire on the go in the afternoon

All the best in an English Inn
We normally stay in the centre of London, but could not find suitable accommodation. What a stroke of luck we found Rose of York.
Situated in Richmond with great connections to London city. The river, parks, and lots of restaurants, cafes and bars within walking distance.
Big car park, super breakfast.
The proprietor is quite a character, friendly and efficient. A small issue with our room was dealt with in a quick and friendly manner.
We have found a new place to stay in London, looking forward to visiting again


A stroke of luck

Oh gosh this was horrid, lovely people but totally beyond good, the wine list has a red a white and a rose ..yes one of each, there are no starters and the mains are a total 1980,s bad the veg was all limp and grey,the gravy was just a bistro type of thing covering cold meat on a hot plate … come on , your down market NHS hospital is special needs  do so much better.

This was a lesson in don’t give a dam and they are masters at it 

Please just make an effort…or avoid like I will

The worst food by a hundred miles or more

We visited this pub early evening during the week and a friendly Manager greeted us and made us feel at home straight away.  We enjoyed ourselves so much on the first night of our visit to Richmond that we went back to the pub again for a second night and booked a meal.  The beer and cider were good, the pub was relaxing because there was no noisy TV screens or loud music so you could actually talk and feel like you were getting away from technology!  We liked it.  Food was prepared on the 2nd night by the Manager and the pie and fresh vegetables were very tasty with lots of gravy...a must.  I love gravy but for those that don't a nice touch was that it was served in a seperate jug.  Although we were staying somewhere else in April we will try booking a room here on our next visit to London.

Relaxing pub serving tasty food

Great little hidden gem for accommodation  in Richmond, great location and fantastic value for money. The rooms are comfortable and the breakfast was fairly substantial and good quality. There is a low tech vibe to encourage unwinding near nature
